Ron's Research Rocketry Page

I've been doing Research Rocketry for about 4 years now.  I've only experimented a few propellant formulas.  They are:

Formula                        Comments

Ed's White Smoke         My introduction to EX was helping mix up some of Ed's White (lightning) propellant.  It is the only experience with pourables that I have had.

Wimpy Red                   I started with this formula because it was posted on the internet.  Nice red flame.  Nice Mach diamonds.  But really wimpy.  I scaled this

propellant all the way from a G to an N with several Hs, Ks, Ls, and Ms in between.

Wicked White                My friend Mike and I experimented with a White propellant that he thought came close to a 2 Ns/gram threshold.  It did not.

Orange Sunset               Nice propellant.  Slow burning.  "Almost inert"  Nice orange flame.  Need to cut a special nozzle and run at very high Kn for this one.

77/5                              I got this formula from my friend Ben in Virginia.  I tried this one out because it was more energetic than Wimpy Red and was simpler to mix.

I fully characterized this formula using a test rocket, and three different nozzles.  Mike wrote an article in Rockets Magazine explaining how its done.

77/6 Red Nek Tek         I got this formula from my friend Mike in Virginia.  It's the best performing propellant I've used so far.  Aggressive and Kick-ass.

Blue flame out of the nozzle, white flame in the middle and red tinge to the end of the flame.  I have now flown this in an M, N and an O at Balls 19.

I will happily try to answer your Research rocketry questions, but I will not give out formulas unless I know you personally.
