Project  2009/2010

I'm  s l o w l y  building a 6" minimum diameter, EX O-powered rocket from Performance Rocketry components.

It's a very simple construction job (so why has it taken me so long?).  Here's how its laid out:

For the first flight I will test the airframe integrity by testing Mach 1.  I will use my custom 98mm 16,000 Ns Fisher Motor.  The grain geometry will be 7, 6" grains with 1.66" cores.  BurnSim estimated this to be an N4343.

Here is the RockSim flight Simulation:

I flew it at Balls 18.  I carried an onboard HD Video Camera.  Maybe some day I will edit it and post it here or on YouTube or Facebook.  I'm not very good at video editing.  Just can't see my way to buying a good video editing tool set.  The flight exceeded by expectations and made it to 15,816 at Mach 1.2.

The flight summary is here:

The ARTS thrust curve from this first flight is here:

For the second flight the motor will be the same hardware as my LDRS 25 flight of the SM-2 but will use a higher solids formula (77/6).  The second flight will be at Balls 19 on 24-26 September 2010.

Some construction photos are posted here.
